Dr. Granville M. Sawyer, Jr. is the author of College in Four Years: Making Every Semester Count. He is currently a professor of finance and director of the MBA Program at Bowie State University. He is also former dean of the School of Professional Studies at Johnson C. Smith University and was Chair of the Management Department and a longtime professor at Norfolk State University. Sawyer has taught a variety of courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, from freshman seminar to advanced research classes, in several disciplines including finance, management and economics. He earned his Ph.D. in Finance and Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, with honors from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; he earned his Master’s in Business from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a second generation educator, both of his parents spent their entire careers in higher education. His father, Dr. Granville Sawyer Sr., is renowned for his innovative programs in urban education and was President of Texas Southern University.
